Shih Tzu Rescue Needs Your Support
Most of the dogs that are rescued by these Shih Tzu rescue organizations are dogs that are old, ill or abandoned. Sometimes people have gotten old and infirmed and are unable to care for them anymore and sometimes the dog has gotten old and infirmed and the owner cannot care for their dog’s state of illness. Many times people who own Shih Tzu’s only want puppies or young Shit Tzu’s and so they send their older dogs in for adoption.
There are many reasons why these dogs are taken into rescue leagues. But once they are taken into a league, the mission remains the same to find the dog a loving and safe place in which to live out the rest of their lives. Sometimes it doesn’t work out after adopting one of these dogs and the rescue league is more than happy to take the dog back. They understand that there are many circumstances in which an adoption might not work and they will again rescue their dog.
Shih Tzu rescue dogs will need to be walked daily. They will need to be groomed weekly and taken to your vet right after adoption to get a full check up. This way you and your vet will be up to speed on the needs of the Shih Tzu rescue dog and the two of you can work together in making sure your new Shih Tzu rescue dog receives all the attention it needs.
If you have other pets be sure to work with them in accepting your new dog. Shih Tzus are small but sturdy dogs and have a will of their own. Their attitude and will make up for their small stature and they are not afraid of too many things. The word Shih Tzu means lion and sometimes the fierceness of these little animals can cause quite a stir in a family. But knowing and understanding the attitude of your Shih Tzu rescue dog before he comes into your own family will greatly alleviation the tension in the family arena when it is brought into the house for the first time.
A Shih Tzu rescue dog can become the most important member of the family once it has bonded with you. They make wonderful lap dogs and they are great fun to brush and put their hair into pigtails. They are very protective of their owners and, therefore, will be very protective of any children in the home. They do not shed very much and once housebroken, and the majority of Shih Tzu rescue dogs are completely housebroken since they come from other homes, they make perfect pets. The Shih Tzu rescue dog is not much different from the Shih Tzu that you would get in a pet store, only it has been in a previous home and for some reason is now unwanted in that home. Whether you have owned a dog before or not anyone with a love for dogs will do well with a Shih Tzu rescue dog.

Rebecca Simpson, a native of Hong Kong, wrote a graduate thesis on the influence of dogs on recent Chinese royal culture. The Shih Tzu is as well known for its delightful personality as it is for its long, flowing coat. Shih Tzu information can be found online, at public libraries, and from breeders. |
