Shih Puppies Can Be House Trained
There are many reasons why house training Shih puppies is difficult. The breed loves to be inside with their owner. They crave attention and will stay close by. If they are left outside to do their business, they immediately will stress and wish to re-enter.
The Shih Tzu breed is very intelligent and delicate because of their size. This type of dog is also very stubborn. They need to be treated in a consistent manner or they will rebel. This attitude makes the task of house training difficult. You have to remain very focused and consistent. If you waver with your approach, a Shih Tzu will become confused and frustrated. A Shih Tzu needs to know what it is that they can do that will please their master and provide them with the attention that they require. If they are unsure of what has to be done, they will not be able to learn correctly since they will be distracted. The best approach is one of gentleness and directness.
Even though consistency is important, do not yell or act in an aggressive manner. Never scold your Shih Tzu, especially Shih puppies, when you seem to be having trouble with house training. If you lose your temper, your Shih puppies will become fearful of you and any progress that you have made will be negated. They do well when you speak in a gentle reassuring voice which will motivate them to please. They will figure out that you are happy when they manage to relieve themselves outside and they will repeat this task correctly over and over to get your approval.
